I am an Associate Professor at IISER Thiruvananthapuram and Principal Investigator of the Vanasiri Evolutionary Ecology Lab. Having spent my childhood in Bangalore, I moved to Ponnampet (Coorg, Karnataka) to do my Bachelors in Forestry. Living in the backyard of the nature in this rainforest clad region of the Western Ghats, my budding interest in ecology and natural history deepened. I went on to do a PhD in Stockholm University, working on phylogenentics and biogeography of butterflies. During my stay in Stockholm, I developed a deeper interest in evolutionary biology, which is now the core research area. Before joining IISER-TVM, I did a postdoc in Stockholm University another one in Cambridge University, both on aspects of the evolutionary ecology of butterflies.

I am an Associate Editor for Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences since 2021. I am on the editorial boards of Current Science (since 2018), and Journal of Biosciences (since 2022). I was also on the editorial board of Journal of Genetics from 2013 to 2017.
